You played Star Wars WEG? Oh man, what a game. I bought the re-release of the rules a few years ago when it was on a deal. Hope to brush them off for a game sometime.

Yeah, in high school I had an ongoing Star Wars RPG game with some friends in the neighborhood, along with the Star Wars CCG and Magic The Gathering. Can’t understand why we got ignored by girls…

on the topic of the special editions/1977 release: i would personally like the have the option to watch any of the releases (OG/1990s/2006/Disney+ versions). i’ve really come around to the idea that star wars exists—or originally did, at least—to try new special effects. i’m not necessarily watching star wars for fantastic writing or great (well done lol) effects, i’m watching it to see the evolution of what it was possible to do? (like i watched kenobi and it really does show the limits of the volume, which is good to know and is kind of why i like the show) and it seems like that understanding may no longer be the case with newer disney films/series, but using star wars as a sandbox (or desert planet) for a bunch of people to be as nerdy as possible is what makes the films so fun!

That is a cool idea. It certainly would be interesting to be able to watch Ep 4 from the 77 version up until the current one and track the changes.

You keep referring to Revan as ‘him’. Why won’t anybody respect her pronouns? 😛

Idk I always played her as a woman; and I suspect that might part of why KOTOR has never really been adapted to film/tv. Revan is just a self-insert character.

I know the Reddit fanboys drool over Keanu as Revan. Bah. He’s getting too old anyway.

Yeah, if there was going to be something Keanu as Revan, that needed to happen at least 10 years ago. I suppose since the only evidence of Revan in canon is the mention of his, or her, name in Rise of Skywalker; Disney could canonically declare Revan to be a woman.

It’s a sticky thing really. I almost don’t want to see an actual actor play Revan.

I mean, remember how everyone had their own head canon about Anakin Skywalker before the prequels came out and there was this huge backlash? Wilford Brimley & Gen-X remembers.

The two wolves inside you of being a Star Wars fan are wanting to know every little detail about everything versus wanting some things to be a mystery because it’s more fun that way and we can use our imagination.

Well, it appears that I am the only person here that has watched the original theatrical versions of the first trilogy within the past 10 years. I watched those 2008 DVDs that had them on the second disc (remember that?). I saw them twice when I first bought them on my square analog TV.

Over a decade later (I can't remember the exact year), as a lark, I decided to watch them again on my widescreen digital TV. It was a surprisingly positive experience for a reason I never would have guessed: the image was smaller and surrounded by black bars, but that enabled me to easily see the entire frame all at once and catch things on the peripheries that I hadn't really seen before. Strange, huh?

It's not accurate to say that all Star Wars fans agree that the original versions are better than the special edition(s). I knew a first-generation fan online who preferred the newer versions. I prefer the special editions as well but I also think that all of the versions should have been preserved, restored, and available to watch (like they did with Blade Runner). I'm indifferent to the Han/Greedo scene. I think Han's characterization is intact either way. I guess that's one of the many ways that makes me a weird fan. Thanks for another really good read!

The Rise of Skywalker, like the ending of Game of Thrones, left a mental scar that makes me actively uninterested in seeing more of Rey’s story. I can’t be the only one.
