I hope to see the Ben Solo movie for one reason: the inevitable lightsaber duel when Ben turns and has to take out his proteges. Kylo Beavis, Kylo GIR, and Kylo Jay Sherman on the big screen, up close? I’m there.

Possible post credits scene with Kylo Boomhauer indicating this is just the first of a trilogy?

First, Kylo Krieger, then Kylo Toot Braunstein. You save the best for last.

Wow, releasing a proper new scan of the OT is huge news! That's probably the #1 thing on most SW fan's wishlist. Also, I was very sad to find out the Ben Solo movie was cancelled, I would have loved to have seen where Soderbergh and Driver would have taken it.

I was going to write about the Ben Solo movie but Matthew Freeman articulated my thoughts better than I ever could, so I am just going to quote him:

I think it’s kind of hilarious that many of the very same people who openly mocked “Somehow Palpatine Returned” are decrying the loss of a movie about Very Dead, Totally Disappeared into the Force Ben Solo. People, it’s thematically resonant that Palpatine returned: the Sith cheat death. Ben Solo’s death was a noble sacrifice! It was his redemption! I don't want to is offend anyone who wanted to see this, but I can't muster any enthusiasm for it. I do like the idea of a Steven Soderbergh Star Wars film though (as well as the David Fincher one alluded to at the bottom of this newsletter).

I have a question: with all this talk of a Simon Kinberg trilogy, does this mean that the Rian Johnson trilogy that he was supposed to start after his third Knives Out film is getting buried along with the Taika Waititi and Patty Jenkins movies (which I was also really looking forward to)?

Freeman always does a great job of articulating your Star Wars thoughts better than you yourself could do. So many times I’ll think of what I want to write for say an episode review, only to have Matthew beat me to the punch and more or less say what I was going to, but it’s also written so much better.

Exactly right.

I am currently envious of your response to Ben Solo! I think you're right about our feeling of Star Wars feeling a little stuck, and folks wanting something that feels genuinely exciting and new. I think I underplayed this motivation in my response.

As always a great column!
