I enjoyed Skeleton Crew. It's exactly the kind of thing I want star wars to do. It had its own feel and was a small story that happens in the universe but doesn't rely on nostalgia to sell it.
Agree completely. It reminded me a lot Mando season 1. Of course I think of these insights after I hit publish. In that it was a self-contained story and you didn't really need a whole lot of Star Wars knowledge to watch and enjoy.
I mean...it's debatable how much if it will actually happen. Although for as much shit as fans like to give Disney, they do have a pretty good track record of getting stuff done. I have a piece in the next week or two about this very topic though.
Thoughts after discussing with my brother yesterday in no particular order:
1. Has the arsenal power of B Wings been demonstrated in love action before? Agree that Rangers is dead, but the New Republic cavalry sequence really highlighted what that show could have been if not for some bad choices.
2. He didn't like the ending, wanted a five minute scene of how this mess is getting resolved. Felt like the lack of resolution was fishing for a second season. I disagreed as truly good writing doesn't need every detail to be explained and frankly if season 2 doesn't happen, this ending avoided future stories from pretzel knotting themselves into fitting At Attin into canon.
3. Film/TV industry seems to have allowed executives, mainly Disney but other too, to run IP into the ground by forcing too many projects (jeez, your list of upcoming projects). High up executives have completely lost the thread on the economics of their industry from a long term perspective and it feels like they just try to force so much out in the name of subscriptions that by the time something like Skeleton Crew comes out, everyone's exhausted from the uneven pacing (and overcritical trolls) of earlier productions that there's no room for Skeleton Crew to hit metrics (streaming in the first few days) that don't have anything to do with how people actually stream. So... doubtful and frustrating that they have a hit that they can't turn into a hit because of other flops and executives that don't get it. I'm just angry that there's so much money to pretend that this many shows will be produced when I'll never getting Season 3 of The OA.
4. Loved how so much of this show meaningfully called back to earlier scenes and Amblin movies. Bike chase was amazing.
1 - I had a friend comment on how awesome the B-Wings were as well. I feel like that's a ship that doesn't get enough love. They were in the ST but it feels like they were lost in the mix.
2 - I liked that the ending was slightly ambiguous. There was plenty of closure and wrapped the story up, but still left enough that if there's a season 2 there's a lot to work with.
3 - Agree completely. I've got something I'm going to write in the next few weeks that the fire house of content method isn't the best way to go about things.
4 - The show did such a great job of call backs and nostalgia without just doing cheap nostalgia for its own sake. I think that's trickier than people would think. The bike chase was great, I loved it.
‘Skeleton Crew pulled off The Goonies ending with surprise, style, and joy. The five year old in me, sitting between, ‘Empire and ‘Jedi, loved this show.
Well said. The show did a great job walking the line of telling its own story and giving us that nostalgia kick, without just doing cheap nostalgia for it's own sake.
Is there a lot of Rogue Squadron stuff in the new canon books? I don't actually know. I do agree the Expand Universe RS would work better as a TV series. I think there's 10 books. It will probably just be a one-off story. At least that would be my guess.
They really expect the enthusiasm for The Mandalorian to last another year? If it were possible, they should divebomb this summer's release slate, put it out on the 4th of July. Defeat the year of negative Star Wars punditry and just inject the movie into everyone's veins when they're not looking.
Filming is done. Wonder if they could have it ready to go in 6 months if they worked round the clock. Come on, Mouse House. Spare no excuse for the little green guy.
Seriously thought I think that's a good point. December 2026 will be 7 years since season 1 of Mando and 3.5 years since season 3 of Mando. That's a lifetime in pop culture years.

Man... even for a Star Wars fan, the list of announced Star Wars projects is exhausting.

Thanks for writing in spite of colds and snow.

love love the snow shoveler
That was a lot of fun. The Snowtroopers have always been high on my list of favorite Stormtrooper designs.
Rogue Squadron was a fantastic book series - seems like it would make a better show than movie but what do I know?

I couldn’t tell you, I’ve not kept up with any of the EU content- which is apparently fine as I think George said all that is not canon(?)
Yup. Once Disney bought Star Wars, all the earlier books were de-canonized.
I m still salty.

I did not expect to have anything on that list of valuable items but I do have the mobile terrain vehicle.
Might be time to eBay that bad boy and get a private island.
