I enjoy Solo. It’s the first film I start with on a full rewatch.

Thank the stars Mark Hamill isn’t a writer!

Yeah, it's not my favorite idea. Maybe if they had Mara Jade as his wife in a flashback I would have been on board.

Solo was ok. I only saw it once, and I remember thinking it would be tighter if they cut some of the extended gambling planet chase stuff. But now I don't really remember what the gambling planet chase stuff was, so...

The gambling planet chase was The Last Jedi. And I agree, it felt like it went on too long.

Ah, thanks. That's how much of an impression either film made on me :) Then I revise my impression of Solo from ok to pretty good :)

I really enjoy Solo. I own it and have seen it about 5 or 6 times. The same is true for Rogue One, which I consider to be companion pieces. They're definitely not on par with the Skywalker Saga films, but they're still very good. The scene of Han and Chewbacca meeting is great, as well as the moment when Han first sees the Millennium Falcon (among others).

Years ago, I recommended Solo to a couple of co-workers but they both dragged their feet about seeing it because of the negative press. When they finally did see it, each of them had the same reaction: "Wow, that was a lot better than I thought it would be." I think Solo is the only Disney Star Wars movie that has filmmakers that George Lucas himself probably would have hired if he was still in charge (Ron Howard, Jon and Lawrence Kasdan).

Good call, that's absolutely a team Lucas would assemble. Maybe there's a fan film in there. Lucas, upset with how Disney has treated Star Wars, assembles a crew of old timers to make one last Star Wars film in his vision.

To piggyback on your suggestion that Lucas should have gotten other people to make the prequels, I do remember an interview (I'm not going to take time to find it) in which he said he thought about other directors doing that trilogy. He would do The Phantom Menace to get the ball rolling, have Ron Howard do Attack of the Clones, and Steven Spielberg do Revenge of the Sith (like he wanted him to do Return of the Jedi). Spielberg did wind up doing one scene. I absolutely love Revenge of the Sith, but if Spielberg, my favorite director, had made it, it might have been my #1 or #2 greatest movie ever.

Jumping on the bandwagon with support for Solo, probably my favorite Star Wars movie.
