What have you got against Darth Icky and Darth Insanious? Next thing you know, you’ll be complaining about Knights of Ren stalwarts Kylo Beavis, Kylo GIR, Kylo Jay Sherman, and the deadliest of them all, Kylo Boomhauer.
I’m certainly no fan of generative AI but if I could run a Kylo Ren speech through a Boomhauer voice filter. Better yet, Kylo and Boomhauer and Rey as Peggy.
I regularly break brains with my "Dang ol' man, like, if y'all go to Z'Ha'Dum, man, like, you're gonna die, I tell you what." (I used to work with a guy whom I'm pretty certain was the physical and temperamental inspiration for Boomhauer. I'm almost absolutely convinced he was the linguistic inspiration.)
I watched King of the Hill when it first aired, I was in high school back in Michigan. I thought it was funny but there were for sure some Texas jokes I didn’t get. And then I moved here, and realize the show is actually an animated documentary about DFW.
I was trapped in Portland, Oregon when it debuted, and I spent every Monday at work explaining the Texas jokes that went over everybody’s heads. I still howl over “Dallas? I don’t want you goin’ to Dallas at all. That place is crawlin’ with crackheads and debutantes, and half of ‘em play for the Cowboys.”
